About University of Evansville

The University of Evansville, more commonly referred to as simply UE, is a small, private university, located in Evansville, which is a city in the southwestern area of the US state of Indiana, with a population estimated at a number of more than 121 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census, fact which makes it the 3rd largest city in the state, after Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. Evansville is also the county seat of Vanderburgh County, and it is also the regional hub for the Illinois-Indiana-Kentucky Tri-State Area.

UE was founded in 1854, by John Moore, under the name of Moores Hill College, in the small town of Moores Hill, being moved to Evansville in 1919, and renamed Evansville College. In 1967, Evansville College was transformed into University of Evansville, due to its significant grow and organizational changes, with the approval of the Indiana State General Assembly.

The University of Evansville is academically organized into 3 colleges and 2 schools, which are: the College of Arts & Sciences, College of Education & Health Sciences, School of Education, College of Engineering & Computer Science, and The Schroeder Family School of Business Administration. In addition to its campus in Evansville, UE also offers its students the opportunity to study abroad, in England at Harlaxton College, also known as `The British Campus of the University of Evansville`. UE's `study abroad` program has been constantly rated one of the best study abroad programs in the nation.

The athletic teams from UE are known as the Evansville Purple Aces, who compete in the NCAA Division I level, in the Missouri Valley Conference and in the Mid American Conference (men's swimming and diving). UE athletics has today 14 NCAA Division I varsity sports, 8 for women and 6 for men, including tennis, golf, basketball, soccer, baseball, volleyball and softball. The Purple Aces have experienced success many times, in the past years, especially in basketball, in which they appeared 4 times in the NAIA national tournament, in their early years, in '41, '42, '51 and '55. They also won national championships in the NCAA, in '59, '60, '64, '65 and '71. From 1946 to 1977, the team was coached by Arad McCutchan, under who's leadership, the Purple Aces managed to reach a record of 515-313.
